I bet you have all heard of podcasts, maybe most of you have listened to some and perhaps a few of you produce them. But I bet you did not look at them this way, they could be the answer to radio’s future.

No I don’t mean turn of the transmitters produce podcasts what I mean is make entire stations out of podcasts so that each show is a different and exciting and produced by a different team of talent — instead of the formats we are all used to now it would a case of wonder what is coming next stations would be alive again and not seen by the millennials as dull and boring playing the same tracks over and over with the same hosts.

Imagine tuning in on the drive to work instead of simply catching about 45 minutes of the same ol’ morning DJ every day — perhaps the drive to work each day would feature 2 different 30 minute podcasts different each day now would that be more interesting — then perhaps you would also download some podcasts too so that you could select the shows you liked and these would become your daily morning drive.

That radio would do what radio is good at shining a light on things and making me aware of them — in a single week between 6am — 10am the regular morning show hours you could select from 40 different 30 minute shows — or it could be a mix bag of 15 minute, 30 minute and 60 minute podcasts all threaded together to become one station

Think about it stations could have personality again they could again become tastemakers not by telling us what to listen too meaning the same 320 songs we played yesterday but by seeking out and selecting awesome and talented producers who have something to say and something great to play

Mmmms sounds good huh! wonder where the first station to try it is — in your town lets wait and see

Until we talk again

I like to work with truly creative artists. I believes all artists should remain in total control of their own music career and I seek to help make this happen.
