We are happy to start our journey on Medium and enter this world of thinkers and storytellers. For our first post, we decided to give you a short outline on Picter, the people behind it, and what you can expect from us blogging here at Medium.
What is Picter?
Picter (www.picter.com) is a better way to manage photography submissions. The platform is designed for two groups: for photographers looking to participate in photo competitions; and for organizations who host open calls for entries. With this in mind, there are two key principles underlying our product:
- We bring together photo creators and photo users in one space.
- In this space, files are not sent from A to B anymore.
For Photographers
As a photographer you can find a growing list of photo competitions at Picter. You simply create an account and then choose which competition you wish to participate in.
Once you have found the right call for entry, you upload your photo project to Picter and submit it easily through the platform. Now, here comes the second principle into play. By submitting your work, you do not really send a file from A to B. You simply give a curator access to your photo project. Like this, you can submit one project to various calls for entries — no need for re-sizing and re-uploading images again and again.
For Organizations
As an organization who hosts a photo competition with Picter, you receive your submissions online at the platform. From here you can view all entries, rate them and collaborate with other curators. No need to download thousands of photo files — or disrupt your judging flow due to delayed communication between jurors and curators. All entries are stored in the cloud and can be accessed from everywhere: it’s simple, safe and convenient.
Who is behind Picter?
Picter was founded in 2015 by five friends:

- Simon Karlstetter, CSO
- Matthias Lohscheidt, CTO
- Leon Kirchlechner, CDO
- Richard Stromer, CPO
Picter launched in 2016 but our team is not new to the world of photography. The founders are responsible for the international renowned photo magazine Der Greif, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2017. We’ve been working together in the field of photography for some time now, constantly learning about the needs of photo professionals, expanding our views on the world (of photography), and creating our own ideas and solutions.
What can I expect from Picter on Medium?
For us, Medium is a place to share stories, to give deeper insights on our product and our company, and to participate in discussions on the topic of photography. Photography is our passion and with our work we are looking to empower photographers and photography itself. We are happy to start our journey here on Medium and we hope you will be a part of it!
