What is so special about the lessons from Futurepump?

The company which started in a corner of Kenya is now selling its products across 17 countries. Last time I wrote about the company it had spent a few years testing its product in Western Kenya and customers were loving it. In this podcast Toby Hammond, the MD of Futurepump, provides tips on running a successful crowdfunding campaign that they have just completed. He also talks about why they decided to go to individuals who invest small amounts instead of fund manager intermediaries- not just because it is faster or culturally fit for an impact driven business but because these individual investors become Futurepump’s army of advocates.

He also talks about the need for trust to build an impact-driven business. A sense of trust and common purpose that helps you to find co-founders and employees. Toby Hammond calls it the ‘human way’.
