I’ve Reached 1.5k Subs! Thank you!
Averaging 100 subs per week — so grateful!
I joined the Medium Partner Program on February 18, 2024, hoping to give this writing malarky a go.
I had enjoyed writing as a kid and, after watching a YouTube video that spoke about people finding their passions, I was reminded of how much I had enjoyed it. I would get lost for hours in that reverie of creative flow, creating characters and plots.
I had zero expectations of what this journey would be like when I started, just over 15 weeks ago. I had done next to no research on writing platforms. I just went for it. Blame my impulsive nature!
Now, three and a half months down the line, I have reached the landmark of 1.5k subs!
I can’t believe there are people on here interested in what I have to say. I have shared more here with my fellow Medium members than with some of my nearest and dearest. Is this a testament to the quality of my relationships? Probably!
I have reached these heady heights without any plan of action, and no consistent pattern of publishing or engagement. I have just let it flow. When I have had something to say, I have written about it and published it.
Most of the time this has gone reasonably well, but I have deleted two stories along the way.
I have had to consider the tone I wish my voice to be on here, and I would like to aim for the almost always positive.
The two stories I deleted were not happy ones. One was about relationship breakdown and the other was about the ‘Man vs Bear’ debate. I sent them to publishers. One I deleted after publication and the other beforehand.
They just didn’t sit right with me. After I sent them for publication they niggled me. I was uncomfortable with the amount of exposure it gave me.
I wish to be vulnerable and authentic, but there are boundaries and I stuck my big toe over the line.
So this is story number 28.
I’m hardly a prolific publisher. Yet, here I am having had 1.5k of you click that little follow button (thank you so very much).
So, am I earning nice amounts of money with all these followers?
Ahahahahahahahahaha! Good one!
Of course not. I think I would need to be publishing much more often to reach the heady heights of the $100 a month mark.
In the last few weeks I felt that my reads and views had dipped so, as an experiment, I upped my membership fee. This had a really good impact on day one, with the highest views and reads I have had and I got really excited. Sadly, this was false hope and everything quickly returned to normal in the days that followed.
My conclusion from this brief study is that paying more means more to others than it does to the person paying. This is fine, and if I were in a position to do so, then I would maintain it. I would happily consistently pay more to support this programme if I could, but I have vet bills to pay first.
So, if you are a follower of mine, thank you so much for giving this middle-aged woman some encouragement. If you are not a follower, perhaps you can help me on my way to the next milestone.
Here’s to us wordsmiths! Thanks for your support :)
