Good habits are an essential element of life that needs to be nurtured and built over time.

Good and bad habits go hand in hand, as both are part of life. But if you have more bad habits than good, then this can have a negative effect on your life.

Bad habits can set you back in life and can prevent you from achieving your valuable goals. They have negative consequences attached to them. This makes building good positive habits necessary and compulsory.

How do you go about building good habits?

In this article, I am going to give you 3 easy tips on building positive habits that anyone can apply in their life. Of course, there are many more things you can do to build positive habits, but these are just some tips that I think are quite basic and easy to follow.

Setting deadlines

Having deadlines for something elicits action, and action leads to accomplishment.

Setting yourself deadlines for different things helps to get you going, and set your mind right. For example, if you want to start writing every day, set a deadline that you need to write a certain number of words or a couple of sentences by the end of the day.

Not only is the task small and easy to accomplish; setting a deadline for it will make it even easier for you to finish the task. Also, having that deadline for doing a certain task pushes you to complete it.

Meeting deadlines gives you a sense of accomplishment, in general, which pushes you to accomplish more. I believe everyone has met some kind of deadline in life. How did it make you feel when you were able to achieve something on time? I am guessing happy and ecstatic! Knowing you were able to achieve the deadline successfully, possibly gave you the motivation to meet another deadline on time.

Having deadlines acts as an incentive to push you, and will, ultimately, build a good habit. You then won't even have to set yourself deadlines anymore.

Identify what is preventing you

There is always something that prevents us from building good habits. Start with identifying all the things that are holding you back from building those good habits. It could be wasting time playing games, watching movies etc.

The things that are holding you back are the bad habits that are preventing you from building good ones. You should think about why you are following your bad habits, instead of focusing on building good ones, which could potentially make your life a lot better and more successful.

Do whatever you can to get rid of those bad habits. For example, if you are playing video games, then switch off your console and put it away from your sight. This way, you will not be tempted to look at it and, thus, play video games. See what works for you and make the necessary changes.

Once you start to tackle all the things that are holding you back from working on your good habits, you will automatically start seeing a massive difference in your mindset.

Writing it all down

Writing things down helps to motivate you and see where you are. It also gives you a sense of accomplishment.

If you managed to write a few sentences of an article in a day, note it down; if you managed to read a book for an hour, write it down. After having it written down, go through it and see what you have done so far. This will help set the pace, whilst, pushing you even further mentally to achieve more, and doing more is a positive habit in itself.

Building good habits is a must if you want to achieve your life goals and be wherever you want to be. Without good habits, you will face, unnecessary, difficulties that can put you back in life long-term.

We always have a choice; whether to create and follow good habits or stay comfortable in whatever bad habits we are in, which is seriously preventing us from building good ones. So, why not build the habit of following and building good habits and being consistent with them.
