When I was about 16, I moved to a different state. I’m originally from the Midwest and moved to the east coast, it was an immense change.

I recall believing it was going to be a fun journey. I was excited to see what the future was holding for me. Over the entire experience, I learned three things.

Being alone is okay

Living in your own “world” isn’t always bad. Before in my home state, I was always surrounded by friends and family. When I moved to a different state, I didn’t have that support.

Learning to be alone taught me to set time aside for myself to find out what I like. It gave me the chance to get to know myself on a deeper level and not by the perception of others.

Getting a job is a good thing

Applying for a job was a great idea in terms of getting me out of the house and getting to know the area better. I decided to get a part-time job to see how it would go.

I was friendly with co-workers and had small conversations but never met up with them out of the workspace. I was a teenager; it was my first job and wasn’t a bad idea.

Meditation

Having a clear mind helps in making the right decisions. Meditating helps me in my alone time, it is a time when I can let all my worries go.

Since I was always with myself I decided to try meditating as a way for me to relax and not think about my worries as much. It was a great thing for me to do especially moving to a new state and not rushing into things.
