How many times did any of you experience a feeling where you felt that I’m missing out something fundamental after seeing a photo, video or seeing it in person ?

FOMO- fear of missing out refers to a feeling where a person feels that the other person is having fun and they start becoming jealous of that . IT is a deep feeling of envy.

One of the contributors of this is social media where a person sees a near perfect life of people with great cars or houses and feel envious about it. There are people who will visit new places not to feel that moment but to post there photos on there social media account. They feel a sense of competition and anxiousness where if they don’t do it then they will be left behind.

Is social media the only contributor ?

NO, from school we teach children that they have to live a near perfect life where they have got everything they have to be the best or NO. 1 and when they are not able to achieve that they become envious of the people who were able to do it . Thus, when a person’s happiness comes from making other people feel small, that is not happiness that is sickness.

We motivate our children like this:

“Study hard or be the best so that you don’t become like him or her(who were not able to achieve a lot).”

WHY can’t we motivate them like this :

“Study hard and be the best version of yourself and make a great and prosperous world for everyone where everyone wants to live in .“

Ultimately all those hatred and envy bottle’s up in someone and they start loosing themselves from inside which as a result destroys mental health make people less empathetic and people feel down, lost, demotivated and depressed .

What can be some of the solution of this problem ?

1. The way through which we are motivating or inspiring someone to do something should not be by comparing them to anyone but to themselves.

2. Digital detoxing — take a break from social media or digital devices completely removing oneself from social media is difficult but one can limit the usage of those apps .

3. Seeking out real connection , when we go through the down phase of our life , it is great to talk about it this with our families, talking with good friends and not only during that phase but also on normal days because when we share these things it just reduces the burden.( it feels amazing trust me)

4. Keeping a journal — a place where we can jot down our thoughts or it can be used as a place where we can keep photos of those few great memories of our life .

I believe FOMO is a very common problem which everyone from every age group faces , what is important is accepting that this is a problem and slowly working on ourselves to make this mindset go away .

THANKS FOR READING AND PEACE !!!
