Grew up without an environmental consciousness
Waste surrounded me
Felt like I might be buried under it

Farm grounds resembled a junkyard
Empty bottles, trash, discarded tools scattered indiscriminately
Oil changed on cars and farm vehicles
Drained oil dumped carelessly to seep into the ground
Fast food cups and wrappers littered the car floor

Course corrected in adulthood
Practice the “R’s” of conservation
Protect natural resources
Learn about the balance of nature
Explore eco-tourism responsibly
Share my stories and passion to encourage change

When death comes
Make me part of the ocean
Ashes mixed with concrete to form man-made coral
Body parts become a new habitat
Anemones suck and move along legs and arms
Clown fish dart through phalanges
Octopi cower Newunder the rib cage
Algae and seagrass sprout from the spine

The sun sets and prepares for a starry sky
Light refracts off the water’s surface

I am at peace buried in an abundance of life
