If you've decided to write 2000 words on a topic today, think about it again.

Reasons why aiming for a word count like 500-1000 is not the right thing.

Employers do it all the time. They ask their employees to finish this article with this many words, within an hour or two.

And it degrades the quality of that article.

Instead, they can suggest aiming for 300–500 words, with the most relevant information, and on-point finishing.

I’ve seen people aiming for the 1500 words article or 1000 or even 2000. They don’t even have that much information to share.

Cons Of This Writing Habit:

I started my first internship this month and my work includes editing and drafting articles.

I see one common leeching monster of creativity in some of those articles,

“They aim for the word count”.

They repeat the same sentences with the same meaning over and over and it makes the important information sound boring and irritating.

Why?

Because no one likes repeated lines that are adding zero to no value to the article.

Just like redundant words. (Which I’m still learning not to use.)

As a reader, I don’t like it when someone goes, “we will give you the most valuable information in this article regarding the subject you came here for.”

And in the second paragraph, it goes like, “you’ll have the most important information in this article”.

And after two lines, “this article is full of information”.

Why repeat the same things 5 times?

Remove this habit, so you can sound like a better writer. (Like I’m trying to)

I hope this tip helps you in writing.
