10 months ago, I followed a writer on Substack. After a while, I realized, nope — I’ve outgrown this person’s messages.

I did what reasonable people do — unfollowed.

All is well, right?

No. No — not with this person. Why? I continue receiving their emails. This pisses me off to no end.

Why do people think:

This person willingly followed me and then unfollowed me because my newsletter was no longer of value to them. I have a genius solution: I will get sneaky and keep sending it. My sneaky desperation will get them to start reading.

Does that work?

Why would anyone be so desperate to have their hardwork sent straight to trash?

Is this about bragging that they have 1000 subscribers as opposed to say, 999?

Because if this is about being honest, providing value, and listening to your customers, pissing off anyone by simply refusing to let them be, is not the way to do it.

And this Substack fella isn’t the first person to do this with me so I’m wondering — for the sake of giving the benefit of the doubt, is this an email service failing?

Or, are there coaches selling people on sneaking emails to those who have unsubscribed, as a fantastic hack?

Am I missing something here?

Thank You For Reading. Have you experienced this? Also, Have you subscribed to my email list? Please do! I would also appreciate a cup of coffee.
