Freelance Diaria, Part the Fourth

We begin 2025 with a bit of cash in the bin and some sexy stretch goals, all overlaid with a boringly grown-up caveat vibe…

Turning the corner of the old year into the new freelancing world of 2025 went pretty well. A big chunk of work from a former employer, completed just before Xmas, means I’m already up for Jan (they’ve even paid too). Another project that had to be done between Xmas and New Year helped even more.

The piece I wrote about being a crap networker for a US money-from-writing site went down well, and I’ve been asked for more ideas; just sold another and pitched a third. I’m waiting for another promised project to come in from my old agency, and still have high hopes of a new IT client.

I even attempted to do my own tax return (save some money), and after a few trials decided I don’t need any of those fancy self-assessment and freelance accounting apps either; I won’t be earning or invoicing enough. My partner has even completed my freelance earnings thermometer; all it needs is some money to colour in. We are all set for the new year so now is a good moment to set some goals for 2025.

2025 goals

Sell a book (or four). I have another novel ready to submit to my publisher, completed…
