If you’re a writer on Medium and you’re getting fewer reads, views and earning on your stories, then you may have missed the main thing that is,

Engagement with other Writers

To be honest, when I first joined Medium, I didn’t know how to increase views, claps, highlights, comments, and reads on my stories.

Later, I found a friend Shoaib Akmal who helped me a lot with understanding Medium.

First, you can see my February Medium story stats: I got 3.6K views and 1.7K reads.

From February 5th to February 8th, I engaged more with other writers, and I got 383 to 395 views and 172 to 181 reads on my stories.

If we talk about earnings, then yes, engagement leads to higher Medium earnings.

As you can see from my story stats, the stories I engaged with during that period gave me more earnings.

How I Made $6+ in One Day from Medium Partner Program

I use Facebook groups to engage with other writers, and I find the Medium Writers & Readers group particularly helpful. I also joined two Discord channels, but I think Facebook is more helpful in this regard.

Why is engagement so important for Medium writers? Here are some of the benefits:

  • Engagement increases your visibility. When you engage with other writers, you expose your profile and your stories to their followers. They might check out your profile, read your stories, and follow you back. This way, you can reach new readers who might not have found you otherwise.
  • Engagement boosts your stats. When you engage with other writers, you also increase the chances of them engaging back with you. They might read your stories, clap for them, highlight them, and comment on them. This will improve your stats, such as views, reads, fans, and reading time. These stats are important for Medium’s algorithm, which determines how much exposure and earnings you get from your stories.
  • Engagement improves your writing skills. When you engage with other writers, you also learn from them. You can discover new ideas, perspectives, styles, formats, and techniques that can inspire and improve your own writing. You can also get feedback and suggestions from other writers who can help you grow as a writer.
  • Engagement creates a sense of community. When you engage with other writers, you also become part of a community of like-minded people who share your passion for writing. You can make friends, collaborate, support each other, and have fun. Writing can be a lonely activity sometimes, but engaging with other writers can make it more enjoyable and rewarding.

How can you engage with other writers on Medium? Here are some tips:

  • Join Facebook groups for Medium writers and readers. There are many groups where you can share your stories, read other stories, give and receive feedback, ask questions, and network with other writers. One of the groups I recommend is Medium Writers & Readers Group.
  • Join Discord servers for Medium writers and readers. Discord is a chat app where you can join different servers (groups) for different topics. There are some servers dedicated to Medium writers and readers where you can chat, share your stories, read other stories, give and receive feedback, ask questions, and network with other writers. Two of the servers I recommend are Medium Subscribers Community and Medium Writers.
  • Follow the publications that match your niche and interests. Publications are collections of stories curated by editors on different topics. There are hundreds of publications on Medium covering various niches and interests. You can follow the publications that match yours and read the stories they publish. You can also submit your stories to the publications that accept submissions and increase your chances of getting published and reaching more readers.
  • Follow the tags that match your niche and interests. Tags are keywords that describe the topic of a story. There are thousands of tags on Medium covering various niches and interests. You can follow the tags that match yours and read the stories that use them. You can also use the tags that are relevant to your stories and increase your chances of getting discovered by readers who follow those tags.
  • Follow the writers whose work you enjoy. When you find a writer whose work you enjoy, you can follow them to get notified when they publish new stories. You can also read their previous stories, clap for them, highlight them, comment on them, and share them with others. This way, you can show your appreciation and support for their work and build a connection with them.

Engaging with other writers on Medium is one of the best ways to grow as a writer and achieve success on this platform. It might take some time and effort, but it will pay off in the long run. So don’t be shy and start engaging today!
