The use of technology has become an integral part of our lives. Our smartphones are always with us, giving us the ability to check emails, stay connected on social media, and play games whenever we want. However, this constant access to technology can also lead to a dangerous addiction that affects both our physical and mental health.
Smartphone addiction in the real world
Recently, I was in Greenwich, Connecticut, eating my falafel stuffed pita at Cava, the Mediterranean restaurant that rivals Chipotle. My smartphone was on the table, which I looked at between bites. I noticed a girl about seven years old, about three feet tall, with disheveled strawberry-blonde hair. She was wearing a blue jumper, and her feet were bare, which was disgusting and odd at the same time.
Then I rationalized it was summer and acceptable to have no shoes on in a fast-food restaurant that the public walks on, right?
