For many business owners and digital marketers, stock photos are their bread and butter. Scouting sites like Pexels, Unsplash, and Shutterstock is second nature when coming up with this week’s content stock images.

Despite them being so convenient, it doesn’t change the fact that overusing stock photos can destroy your brand image in the long term. And in the short term, too, for that matter.

Here are some reasons why, as a freelance writer, you should invest in branded custom images for your content.

1. Stock photos = brand killers

If you want your freelancer brand to convey a generic, hands-off digital image, then you should, by all means, use as many stock photos as you can fit in both hands.

Featured images can make or break an article in the second it takes for your audience to process it.

When you use stock images, the area where your brand image should shine is occupied by an image that amounts to nothing interesting in the eyes of most customers.

Why not use that medium for something that speaks for your brand instead of something that works…
