We are pushed to buy more than we need in this consumerism-driven society. Commercials and social media play on our emotions to make us want more, and with the growing accessibility of goods, we are more likely to buy things in excess.

These behaviors hurt us financially and act as a catalyst toward increasing negative behaviors like cluttering our homes, feelings of stress, and less time for ourselves. This is why many people have taken to minimalistic tactics to combat how societal norms taught us to behave.

Examples of widely accepted norms:

  • Taking on debt to go to school.
  • Spending most of your time working and not with loved ones.
  • Spending money to look better for people you don’t know.

Reduce the Amount of Unnecessary Tasks

We often accept these norms because we see others doing so. The goal should be to create behaviors that help us live a more fulfilling life. That requires spending our time wisely; otherwise, we won’t be able to do the things we love. Instead, we would run like a hamster on a wheel, hoping to catch the treat. When actuality, all we are doing is expending energy and time we can’t get back.

If we manage to spend less unnecessary energy, we will have more effort we can put toward investing in our family life, learning skills, and enjoyment of the little things.

To begin the process we need to cut out the excess not only financially but for our life overall. Our body is an interconnected system, and so is our life; everything we do affects it in various ways. We will see a positive shift when we manage our finances, health, and work-to-enjoyment ratio.

Create an Effective Plan

  • What are their habits?
  • What do they achieve?
  • What is their work-to-enjoyment ratio?
  • How can you be more like your ideal self?

Build the Foundation

These questions will provide you with a foundation for your desires in life. You will better understand what skills best fit your needs because you will have an idea of what you want to achieve.

The focal point of your goals and effort should pertain to work, home, and play. If your goals and actions are pointed toward this, you will invest time in making your life more enjoyable and straightforward.
