I Used Lemon Ice Cubes on my Face for a Week. Here’s What Happened

My acne loved it, but my dryness hated it

They: Lemon? Who puts lemon on their face?

Me: I do!

They: It’s dangerous for your skin!

Me: Relax, I did a patch test first. My skin is very different from yours and lemon suits my skin, so why shouldn’t I reap its benefits?

They: You’re insane, Romi! First, you use local products, and now this?

Gosh, how many times do I have to explain to people that if something hasn’t suited them, it doesn’t mean it won’t suit me either!

But, to all my lovely, supportive readers, please don’t jump into it and apply lemon on your face just because I said I did. Do a patch test and see if lemon suits you because it doesn’t suit 90% of people.

So, how did I use lemon as an ice cube?

I took four parts water and 1 part lemon juice and mixed it well. Then I put it in an ice cube tray and let it set. Simple!

The next night, I took out one cube and rubbed it on my face. I have already used aloe vera and lemon juice on my face before, so I knew that lemon suited me.

But I was very gentle, moving the cube in circles, taking breaks, and letting my skin breathe in between.

Wait, why night? If that’s what you’re thinking, I’ve got you covered.

Lemon contains vitamin C (I am a huge fan of Vitamin C because of these awesome reasons), which is oxidized when exposed to the Sun and heat.

Which basically means that it loses its potency and becomes less effective.

After applying, I just slept, washing it off the next day.

Fast forward to the results, my acne marks faded away, and I also saw a noticeable improvement in the hyperpigmentation around my lips.

But wait, there’s more.

Because I was applying medicated creams for my pimples, my skin was becoming dry. After about three days, the lemon started stinging. What did I do? Of course, research!

I found out that applying lemon can make the skin dry and my skin already being dry was a problem.

The solution? Keep your skin hydrated by applying moisturizers and drinking lots and lots of water to be internally hydrated.

Another thing that I learned through this experiment was that I overdid it. If I had applied the ice cubes with gap days in between, I would not have had to face the dryness issue.

That was it, folks; that was my experience with lemon ice cubes. Have you tried any DIYs that are normally “forbidden”?
