It’s the Little Things
The Insignificant Moments That Hold the Most Meaning
We often speak about the grand gestures or big acts of kindness from people we interact with daily, people we connect with occasionally, or even people in our closest relationships.
But what about the small or seemingly “insignificant” gestures?
These little acts of kindness are always unexpected and serve as subtle reminders that someone cares, even when I am going through hell.
One of the most beautiful examples happened to me a few weeks ago when I was preparing to write my final exams in school. I barely had two hours of sleep, and I was anxious because of how bulky the course was. Also, I was scared of forgetting all the information I retained in my head that I needed to remember in the exam hall to pass the course.
A few minutes before entering the exam hall, I felt someone hug me from behind and say:
“Everything will be fine, don’t worry”
I turned and found out it was a friend. She told me she had spotted me from afar biting my fingernails, and she could tell I was anxious. Her action, though little, made me so happy. Her little act of compassion did not necessarily take away all my anxiety, but it made me feel a lot better and more confident about my papers.
Grand gestures are amazing, but something about a little act of kindness touches the deepest part of my heart. It forms a core part of my memory of people I have encountered at one point in time and people in my close circle.
- It’s the way they drop everything they are doing to listen attentively to you
- It’s the little details they remember about you
- It’s the cute messages they send to check up on you
- It’s the nice comments they leave under your pictures on social media
- It’s the warm and cozy hugs they give you when you are down
- It’s the way they include you in conversations when you feel left out
- It’s the way they assist you with tasks without you needing to ask
As someone who has been on the receiving end of the examples I listed above, I have realized how these actions may seem so little, but they are the true signs that someone cares.
I have also realized how much I can improve someone else’s day by showing a little bit of kindness ❤️.
