3 Mistakes New Writers Over-Focus On
To be a relatable writer readers love, these obsessions need to go
If you’re new to writing online, you’re probably making at least one of these mistakes.
You’re not alone. Many writers do, at all skill levels.
It’s because what we think we know about writing (or have been taught), is wrong when writing non-fiction content online.
If you’ve been pulling your hair out, not just sometimes, but every day, you might be directing your focus the wrong way.
Here are the top 3 things new writers overfocus on most often:
The topic idea
Your topic idea probably matters much less than you think.
Good writing relies less on original or smart concepts, and much more on attention-grabbing and striking execution.
Sure, learn about your audience and what they like to read about.
But don’t obsess over whether your idea is original or smart enough. Don’t waver over someone else stealing it (because they probably will).
The key is to create a difference in the reader’s experience. You want your article to be the one readers love. You want them to go rave about it, because it’s that good.
