You may not have given it much thought, but if you’ve ever witnessed transformational leadership, you’ll realize it’s a huge step up. Ordinary leaders are concerned with getting the job done, managing, and organizing the tasks at hand. There is nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, transformational leaders can inspire and motivate their teams, stretching and challenging them to perform beyond their wildest expectations. So, how can you adopt more transformational leadership characteristics? Here are four-step you can take right now to improve your leadership skills.

1. Individualize Your Leadership

A transformational leader understands their team members and can see the potential in each one. Consider yourself to be more than a manager: be a mentor to your employees and encourage them to push themselves in personal development. Allocate projects and tasks based on their current skills, which challenge their ability to grow and promote confidence.

2. Act as a role model

A transformational leader can motivate and inspire their team. Act with integrity, openness, and honesty to model the behavior you want to see. You will instill respect in your team members and serve as a role model for them.

People will follow your example as a leader. They will live up to your expectations, so set them positively.

3. Go Above and Beyond as a Manager and Inspire Your Team

It is your responsibility to establish the vision, strategy, and goals for your team. Your employees will look to you as a leader. If you concentrate on completing day-to-day tasks, you will most likely achieve the desired outcome. However, by demonstrating transformational leadership and communicating positivity and optimism, you can motivate your team to outperform the project brief.

Transformational leaders constantly encourage their team members by maintaining enthusiasm, checking in on progress, working collaboratively to find creative solutions, and celebrating small and large victories.

4. Promote Creativity

Creativity is most likely the distinguishing feature of transformational leadership. A transformational leader sees beyond the day-to-day and is constantly aware of industry changes. They are eager to foster innovative approaches and are not afraid to experiment with new techniques. A transformational leader is more than just an attentive and collaborative listener. They reward individuals who think for themselves and challenge the status quo.
