Adventure

When you hear the word adventure, what comes to mind? For me, images of a white water rafting trip through the Amazon, or a marathon run through the desert pop into my head. However, adventures don’t always have to be on such an extreme level: they can be much simpler.

As a thrill-seeking college student, I often dream of traveling across the globe. But while this might not be a realistic option for me at this point in my life, I am still consistently finding ways to make my life more adventurous and exciting. How? Micro-adventures.

Recently, I’ve been fitting miniature expeditions into my busy life. Driving to the beach, going cliff jumping, walking to the top of city buildings, going fishing, hiking through the woods, sleeping outside: you name it. Even though most weekdays, my schedule is completely booked, I still manage to consistently complete activities like this on a weekly basis.

You can do it too!

You don’t have to commit a full week of time or a large amount of money in order to experience adventures. Start spicing up your life in little ways here and there, and you’ll feel fulfilled and free from the monotonous lifestyle. If you feel like you are getting in a rut, living the same day over and over again, sit down and stir up some ideas to add excitement!

These can even be less demanding than the journeys I’m going on- go explore a forest near you, try out a new restaurant, watch a horror movie. They can be done in the comfort of your home: write a letter to a loved one, take some photographs, or try a new instrument. Be creative! Ask yourself which activities might excite you or bring you energy!

You could also try out habit or lifestyle changes or challenges. Try waking up an hour earlier every day for a week, or eat a junk food free diet.

Adventures may look too difficult or feel uncomfortable at first- but they’ll create memories you’ll never forget and develop your personal character!

Add these to your normal routine, and your life will become much more fun than if you were to sit on the couch and watch Friends every time you have a free night.

“The dangers of adventure are worth the thousand days of ease and comfort”

-Paulo Coelho
