Now that I have two self-published books on Amazon, I’ve learned a thing or two while making mistakes along the way. If you’ve already ventured into the self-publishing world or thinking about it, I trust my lessons learned will benefit you.

Releasing a book too soon

I wish I had released my first book, Divorce Recovery Handbook, later than I did. Though I didn’t know it, I hadn’t yet learned all there was to know about Kindle Create. Hence, this eBook is now on its 4th version. Though the first version still earned me good reviews on Amazon, it didn’t have a proper table of contents or a copyright page, etc. I’ve since learned how to better set up a Book on Kindle Create.

Offering Amazon’s free promotion too soon

I’m glad Amazon offers authors the chance to give away their eBook free for five days every 90 days, but I don’t think I should have offered it free for 4 days the first month or so. Mind you, doing this put me on the best seller’s list for a few categories for a few days. If I could do it again, I would have charged full price at first and then offered it free a day here and there or connected the promotion to a special event.

Charging too little
