Some creators are still in a trap.

They get more followers or get decrease, they’d never think of why it’s happening.... don’t be one of those unserious guys out there.

After several ups and down in the backstory of my career, there are some certain things I discovered and willing to help others.

Every week, I do analyze my stats and examine why do my audience add up or why the opposite.

Understanding what makes more people follow you is the main key to make your brand quadruple.

Here are the 06 things most people analyze before following you:

1. Gain

They analyze the good thing they may be expecting next from you.

Readers don’t just stumble on your article to click that little button for nothing.... there MUST be something they’ve seen inside of you.

And among that, there is ‘gain’.

They want to gain more from you. And that is, the more you add profitable information to them the more they’ll come.

Here’s an excerpt from Tim Denning:

This means, they grow by sharing helpful stuffs. What are those helpful stuffs?

Valuable information. Good contents. That’s why people followed them, because they’ll 'gain' something from them.

2. Interest

There is no growth without interest.

If you are looking to grow your audience.... create an informative, interesting bond with them. Then —

But wait wait wait wait! How could you do that?

Just talking about your hobbies; favorite sport, TV show, stars and things like that?

Na-nah-nah! That’s not what I mean. Give me some few seconds, I’ll show you what I mean.

Share your interest based on what most people of your niche love. And let it be interest that’s mixed with market demand— not just what your mind feels like doing.

Here’s what I actually mean;

For instance, in the fitness niche, those people love what and what?

Gym, boxing, healthy diet, body building... they love six packs, like Arnold Schwarzenegger or John Cena.

Show your passion in those stuffs.

In the self-help, people love to see your own results of what you’re telling them, the advice you’re giving them. They’ll have more confidence in you when you share that with them. Show them proof.

Share deep interest on what they’re facing.

3. Emotional life story

People love stories!

Break their heart with your personal experiences, but don’t overdo it. Don’t get them bored!

Have you ever read an article of a writer who shared a heart-touching story of themselves without saving it in your mind or to your reading list? More especially when you realize you’re both in the same boat with them.

When you come across writers like that, you fall in love with them.

Sometimes, you even follow up... do you know why?

Because it’s emotional and it touches heart.

Your life experience is worth it! It’s worth sharing!!

LISTEN! Most readers hardly come across a story whose writer struggles the same way they do in their life without following up the writer.

You never know who your life experiences may have impact on. You don’t know.

So, don’t play with your life experiences, it’s a hidden treasure. Here’s what Tim Denning says:

4. Strange ideas

People are attracted to new, strange things.

How do you feel after watching Sonic, the fastest? How many people have you shared the story with?

Countless, right?

There are many things like that. Be it articles or movies.

Whatever it is, when people come across a strange idea they’ve never seen, they do love it. They’ll follow up.

Heros became what they are because of the strange talent they had.

When you discover a new idea, a strange one, don’t double-think to share with the world.

5. Takeaway

Your followers love free stuffs. I guarantee you.

Why won’t they? They’re humans. We love free goodies.

If you’re writing threads on Twitter, you’ll definitely believe what I mean here.

The most fastest way to build up your following is by giving out free information that is valuable. And then auto-DM it to those who follow you. While on Medium, share deep insightful and thought-provoking ideas. Practical, valuable advice.

✓ Think of major problems

✓ Make plans and write a free solution

✓ Make the community aware

✓ Booom! Launch it!

Put your eggs in free stuffs, the rest will work itself.

If you can’t give out free books, give out free practical advice to your audience and as you move, expand.

Free stuffs are like magnet, they forcefully attract people.

6. Words

They are the great tools of writers.

One of the simple ways to use words build up more audience is by applying psychology while writing; how to create, agitate and solve problem.

A study found that people are more likely to buy product with the best clever words in the description of the product’s banner, TV ads or social media ads.

The more hooky and persuasive you are, the more your guarantee of winning.

REMEMBER! A writer’s most important tool is clever words (and the vice versa).

Round up list;

Things that makes readers follow you:

  1. Gain
  2. Words
  3. Interest
  4. Takeaway
  5. Strange ideas
  6. Emotional life story
Made by the writer

NOTE: There are many more factors that apply. And one person’s growth may not apply to another person, analyze your stats and use it to grow your writing career.
