I’ve been working as a full-time freelance writer for over two years now.

As I wrote in my story on starting out as a freelance writer without a financial safety net, quitting my day job (in a bookstore) was a scary (and maybe not the wisest) decision I’ve ever made.

I didn’t have any financial savings or reliable income streams at the time, although I also had no one depending on me and a relatively low cost of living, which helps, of course.

Still, it hasn’t been an easy two years.

It’s been years of financial stress, of extreme ups and down, of various existential crises. But mostly it’s been in a time in which I was able to make my dream a reality: being able to make a living with writing. And I’m grateful for that almost every day.

For me, the stress is definitely worth it. Because I love what I do.
