Many new writers overcomplicate the online writing process. They try to write the perfect article from the very first day. They think it will bring more views, likes, and shares.

That was a mistake I made when I started writing online. I spent a long time perfecting my articles — researching, formatting, and editing. I used to overthink the writing process. But that didn’t do me any good because my articles didn’t even bring 10 views at the time.

It’s good to do your research and write well. There’s nothing wrong with making your writing a perfect piece of art. But there’s no such thing as ‘perfect’ in writing. It’s only your perception that differentiates good writing from bad.

Your writing sucks, and that’s okay.

As a new writer, it is challenging to see any growth. You may write a few articles and share them on social media. A few of your Facebook friends will notice and comment, “nice post,” and that’s it.

You won’t see thousands of views no matter how good you try to make your article. The chances of getting a lot of views in your first few articles are extremely low. It’s not because your articles are not good. It’s because you are yet to build the amount of work that makes you visible.

It doesn’t matter if you write on your blog or Medium. You must create a lot of work to make yourself visible to the readers. There is no fixed amount of articles you should write to do so. It might take 20 articles for some, while it might take 50 or 100 articles for others.

The point is to understand that you won’t achieve success from the very first day as an online writer. It can take months for your articles to be seen by readers in your category.

Building a writing habit is step number one.

What to do to make yourself visible?

There is no secret formula here. Writing an article without grammatical errors and proper formatting won’t get people to see your work. Sure, these are helpful. But the most important thing to do is:
