Seedless Mangoes
A little moment of wisdom!
First of all, with the term “mangoes”, I am referring to Alphonso Mangoes, which is a sweet, rich, and aromatic species of the fruit. It is mainly grown in a very small region of India. In short, it’s precious to many.
The other day, I was cutting mangoes as a snack for my family. I diced the last two and then gave them to my son. He savored each and every bite of them and came running into the kitchen, asking for more.
“Sorry, honey! Those were the last ones. We will get some more later“
I remember him being so tiny that he could hardly reach the top of the kitchen platform.
He looked up at me and pointed to the big yellow mango seeds still there on the plate.
“They are just seeds, we can’t eat them,” I replied.
“Hey just imagine if mangoes wouldn’t have any seeds?”
Ha! I already started picturing a ripe mango without the gigantic and annoying seed, which was replaced by the sweet, vibrant, juicy flesh. My mouth was watering at the mere thought of this delicious concoction! I looked at him expecting a similar joy and excitement.
Instead, he looked puzzled, and with a confused look, said ” Mom, if they won’t have any seeds then how we’d get more mangoes?”
And there I was, a dumbstruck mom, baffled by my child’s wisdom.
