Tired of socializing in the middle of a cozy hangout session? Feeling the sudden need to get back home and eat ice cream? Not wanting to get out of that introverted PJs? Social interaction can fuel some people, especially extroverts. To introverts, the same level of social interaction can be draining instead.

I resonate with this familiar feeling. Here are some common signs of social exhaustion:

1.DETACHMENT FROM DIFFERENT PEOPLE

The weary feeling where you don’t feel like seeing your friends, family, or even people is annoyingly comforting when you’re officially out of social battery. Being alone is the chocolate cupcake and detachment is a cherry on top.

2. INABILITY TO FOCUS

You need to get work done but find yourself constantly procrastinating. You further can’t make yourself watch a movie or even F.R.I.E.N.D.S. You find yourself unable to concentrate on even the slightest things around.

3. DIFFICULTY SLEEPING

The thoughts keep you up all night. Your brain won’t stop thinking about that one embarrassing scenario that happened 4 years ago which of course is totally irrelevant.

4. INTENSE HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES

The headaches and weariness won’t leave you alone.

5. CONSTANT MELTDOWNS

You get triggered easily and breakdowns take over you all of a sudden.

One out of three people experiences these signs frequently. Needing space and some me-time are totally VALID!

At the end of the day we all are humans and it’s totally okay to face such circumstances in a while.

Here are some helpful methods to recharge your battery and avoid it from running out:

  1. SET YOUR BOUNDARIES
  2. IDENTIFY YOUR MAIN TRIGGERS
  3. SCHEDULE SOME ALONE TIME
  4. PRACTICE SELF CARE
  5. MEDITATION
  6. PRACTICE JOURNALING

If you’re experiencing severe social burnout, there are avenues to get help. Consider reaching out to a mental health professional to discuss your exhaustion.
