“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

Marcus Aurelius

I’ll do it tomorrow…

Haven’t we all muttered this phrase at least once before?

Then tomorrow creeps its head around the door and we slam it shut, saying we’ll do it the next day.

So on and so on, eventually putting us deeper into a slump.

For some reason we put it off, knowing deep down that we would feel a sense of relief after completing the task at hand.

Without motivation, the urge to better ourselves can feel like a tiresome chore.

Finding a reason or a purpose can propel us to get out of our slump and build momentum for our future.

Here are some other ways to get un-slumped.

1. Pick a passion

Quick! Think about all the things that you are passionate about.

This can range from hobbies, self-development, work, or travel.

Picture yourself doing something that brings a sense of joy to your life. Something that takes your mind off the mundane tasks of life. Or something that uplifts your spirit.

Finding your passion allows you to keep in a positive frame of mind. Participating in an activity that you enjoy will not only bring peace to your life but will also encourage you to not give up as you begin to see your progression.

2. Any goals a goal

Peeping into the future can be frightening.

Full of unknown events that we haven’t fully prepared for.

What's the point? Why even try?

This way of thinking is the easy way out. Instead, shift your perception to focus on just one day at a time. It is so easy to get caught up in future events that we often neglect the present moment.

Start by setting yourself short-term achievable goals. It can be as simple as waking up earlier, cooking your own meal, or running for 10 minutes each day.

Accomplishing the goals that you have set will help rebuild your momentum and improve your self-confidence.

3. Routine, routine, routine

Waking up without a plan can put you in the wrong direction from the get-go.

Having a routine that is easy to follow day in and day out will have a positive impact on your life.

Knowing where you’ll be at a certain time and knowing what you’ll be doing allows your mind to be at ease. The stress of planning the day is no more after creating a daily routine.

Whether that's a morning routine of waking up early, exercising, and having a cold shower, or starting an evening routine of having a nice cup of tea whilst flicking through a book. Find whatever serves you best.

4. How bad can it be?

Being in a slump and feeling low on energy, thoughts begin to seep in and pollute the mind.

“I am not good enough.”

“I don’t have what I want.”

“Why is life so unfair?”

With a mentality like this, you are asking for more trouble. Try changing the way you think and talk to yourself.

A sense of gratitude for the things that you do have can go a long way. Focus on what you have both mentally and physically. You are far more fortunate than you may think to be.

Not only does this take you out of a negative thought cycle but puts you into the present moment. Allowing for more abundance in the future.

5. Me, myself and I

How often are you giving yourself the full attention that you deserve?

So often we give our attention to others so freely without returning the same energy to ourselves.

By filling up other people's cups we don’t have enough left over for ourselves. Leaving us to feel empty on the inside.

Self-love is a vital tool to acquire when you are stuck in a slump. re-build your self-belief and confidence for the next chapter in your life.

Slow down and take time for yourself. Life is like a virtual video game. Level up the areas of life that you feel are lacking.

Your external world is just a reflection of your internal world. Your outer world will mirror your inner thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. Change the way you feel to change the world you live in.

It's not all doom and gloom

Lift your chin up. Feel the sun shine down upon your skin. You’re most certainly alive. Do not give up just yet.

Being in a slump can prove to be a useful tool in life. Are you willing to dig deep and make an effort to improve your life?

It can show great character to get up when life has pushed you down. Dust yourself off, stand up, and try again.

It ain’t about how hard you’re hit, it’s about how you can get hit and keep moving forward.

Turn that emotion of lack into abundance. Your thoughts determine your reality. Begin by shifting your internal world to be more grateful for what you have in the present moment.

Rebuild your momentum by creating a routine that you can follow. Add something you are passionate about to keep it from getting stale.

Shift your energy towards yourself and create short-term achievable goals. Leaping over each hurdle that is in front of you. Eventually, you’ll look back to see how far you have come.
