The Beauty To See
How many times have we missed beauty staring us in the eye?
One of the things I believe is that each one lives his day differently from the other. If the events of the day were manipulated and controlled so that different people experience “the same day” it would not be that.
The reason is many of us live through different lenses, things reflect differently and send meaning to our minds in unique ways. These lenses are not given to us by chance or made for us. They are rather made by us.
I have come to this conclusion not too long ago. It came through a simple stroll in the neighboring park coming from an important class. I felt a sense of calm and decided to look and see what the world around me is.
My gaze fell into the shadow of a tree. Nothing special, just a tree. I began wondering why in many cases writers include nature to deliver an idea or point. Then suddenly it came to me. I saw the tree and its shadow but not as I saw them before.
I saw the answer to my question. The sun, the tree, and the shadow all became actors delivering one story, one view, and one experience. I gaze upon the sun and I see the perspective that everyone has.
It became the eye of every person looking upon the tree. No matter where the sun was there was always a shadow, a spot the sun could not reach, a place blind to everyone that sees. The tree was not a tree, but everything we have a different opinion on.
We are blind to our shadow but the others can see it, and they are blind to their shadows but we perceive it. From that moment I realized beauty stares us in the eye but we often choose to dismiss it.
