When I first started writing on Medium, I was grateful for any read, clap, or comment on my stories. Those three things didn’t, and still don’t, have to be combined for me to feel appreciative that someone is taking the time to support my work.

However, after four years of consistently showing up on this platform, I can say not all support comes across as equal anymore.

Now, inauthentic comments stick out like sore thumbs — especially on my stories that have been boosted and shared with more than my regular readers.

Some are more discreet than others, and you have to use your best judgment to decide whether someone actually read your story. Others are so nonsensical, you can instantly tell.
