The Importance Of Consistency And The Plague Of Neglect.
A boulder to go up the hill needs effort that knows no shortage but demands more instead.
Following the example mentioned in the line above we can imagine how important it is to be consistent. Stop pushing for one moment and it will start pushing you down. The longer you rest from committing to consistency the farther you fall back.
I have experienced this many times. The problem of starting and pausing. I found it to be caused by many reasons. One of which is the lack of discipline (I do not feel the need to push the boulder). Another is the lack of a reason (The big question of why. Why should I do it?). Then there is the lack of vision (Even if I reach the top of the hill what will I have accomplished).
I always thought that discipline can be an emotion that we develop to make us want to do what we do not wish to. To do what is beneficial and of value. I am now discovering that it is not the case. Our tendency seeks pleasure and comfort. For it to start to ask otherwise is not ordinary. It is the mind that must think and command the body to do what it does not desire to.
A simple example of self-discipline in action is getting out of bed early. There is no time in which a person said that he would love to get out of the warm, cozy, and relaxing bed into a cold, rainy, or windy day. We tend to always prefer to press the snooze button unless we have a strong reason WHY not to.
To make yourself challenge the desire for comfort you need a strong enough reason of why not to. You and I need to work on the reasons for WHY. It needs to be strong. Strong enough to make you jump out of bed. Strong enough to make you go for a run. Strong enough to make you read as many books and informational articles as you can. Strong enough to make you…a better you.
To build the Whys You and I need a vision. What lies at the finish line or what pulls me towards it like a moth and a light? When you see far enough with enough faith you gain the reason you need to walk. Step by step. Book by book. Discipline by discipline. You traverse using those means and find yourself closer to then finally reach where you want to be.
Time will pass. What you are doing while it ticks away is what matters.
