Aside from being entertained and captivated, I adopted valuable life lessons from watching ‘‘The Maze Runner,” a dystopian science fiction film based on a novel by James Dashner. Onset, the story revolves around a group of young adults trapped in a mysterious maze with no memory of their past. As they navigate the labyrinth, they encounter daunting challenges and confront their fears while striving to unravel the maze’s secrets and find an escape route.

The film highlights the essence of embracing sudden challenges. The twists and turns in the maze become metaphors for life’s challenges, inviting us to reflect on how we approach the difficulties we encounter. Adaptability becomes a survival skill, thus, problem-solving and change are inevitable.

There needed to be more trust among the characters trapped in the maze (Gladers) which complicated their ability to work together to solve the challenges posed by the maze. Essentially, beyond fiction, establishing trust should be a foundational element in personal and professional relationships, and the absence of shared experiences can hinder the development of this trust. Despite their differences, the (Gladers) united to overcome the obstacles within the maze. This camaraderie emphasizes the strength of solidarity and working together toward a common goal.

The Gladers losing their memory and past experiences meant that they were freed from preconceived notions and biases which could’ve hindered open-mindedness and adaptability to new situations. On the other hand, this approach that relies heavily on instinct and trial-and-error proved to be slow, inefficient, and even dangerous, leading to unnecessary risks and setbacks which they encountered. In essence, these contrasting elements became key factors in their ultimate success in navigating the Maze and uncovering the truth. Thus, memory influences our decisions and who become.

Collectively, the Gladers undergo a gruelling test of physical and mental endurance. No matter how tough the journey was, persisting amidst chaos was imperative for their survival. As we navigate our mazes, let us heed these five lessons:

  • Embrace the Unkown & Adapt in the Face of Change
  • There is Strength in Solidarity & Unity
  • Memory Influences Our Decisions & Who We Become.
  • Perseverance Pays Off

After all, it is amidst life’s challenges that we truly discover the strength within ourselves and the power of unity in overcoming the maze of our existence.
