I write and publish medium-to-high content books as part of my writing income.

The other week I met with other book publishers in a bar in Shoreditch. We met at 3 pm, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t leave before midnight. So much was said.

At one point, the conversation turned to things that cause people not to start something new and stick to the same old.

What makes this sad is that so many things which put people off change are completely untrue.

When it comes to writing online, or writing and self-publishing books, there was one myth in particular most of us have been hearing a lot.

We were either hearing it from people who genuinely believed it, or people who were using it as an excuse.

They think:

You have to be an exceptional writer to be able to make money from it.

  • You have to produce perfect grammar.
  • You have to be a metaphor machine.
  • You have to be a writer, an editor, a proofreader, and a researcher all in one.
  • You always have to be prolific.
