The Two Free AI Tools that Will Transform You into a Pro Writer

Why do you need tools to improve your writing?
We spend most of our time solving real-world business problems as Data Scientists. Our job involves not only writing codes, but also writing documentation, preparing slides for technical sharing, and publishing articles that share our knowledge. We tend to have a lot of good content. Due to some factors, for example, not being a native English speaker, your writings are rife with grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. This can easily cause an impression of unprofessionalism and make a great piece of content look bad. Before publishing your work, you need some tools to check the quality!

Wordtune
My favorite AI paraphrasing tool is Wordtune. Every article I post on Medium is rewritten using it. Wordtune was created by AI21 Labs, an Israeli startup founded by Yoav Shoham, a computer scientist and professor emeritus at Stanford University. It’s the first AI-powered writing companion in the world that understands your writing context and suggests nice sentences without altering their meaning.
Here are some reasons why I love it:
- Multiple rephrasings. You can choose from a number of different rephrased sentences. They all keep the meaning of the original sentence.
- Choose the option that works best for you. It is possible to pay extra to tailor your sentence to a particular audience with premium features. If you are writing a business letter to a client, you can choose the formal option to make the sentence more formal.
- Type on the fly. Wordtune lets you edit your posts on LinkedIn and Google Docs without relying on its web editor. You can write anywhere as long as you use Chrome or Edge as it provides a free extension for these two browsers. Fantastic!
QuillBot
There is also a tool called QuillBot that can assist you with your writing. You can improve your writing with the following features:
- The more services there are, the better. Other than paraphrasing, QuillBot provides many other services. It is useful for checking your grammar, summarizing long articles, and generating citations with URLs.
- More options for paraphrasing. Similar to Wordtune, the paid version offers four settings: Creative, Formal, Shorten, and Expand.
- Extensions. Google Docs and Microsoft Word are the two most commonly used programs to write. Apart from Google Chrome extensions, QuillBot also supports Google Docs and Microsoft Word extensions so you can enhance your sentences without opening your browser.
Takeaways
There are many paraphrasing tools available on the market, such as Paraphraser, Duplibot, Rephrase and etc. In most cases, however, these AI software don’t comprehend the context of the sentence, which is an imperative feature for a good paraphrase tool.
