Each one of us has had different dreams since we were kids. We didn’t think about how to get there; we just said it without imagining all of the rocky roads. But, as we get older, we realize: are we already living in our childhood dreams or is it far from our dreams?

Some of us graduated with different degrees as well, and when we took significant majors at university, maybe some of you already made plans for what dreams you’re going to live. Maybe it worked for some people and not for others. And it’s called “uncertainty.” For various reasons, some of us did not pursue majors in college.

But in reality, most people end up working for a company that they don’t enjoy working for. There are so many reasons why that thing happened. Perhaps to obtain money only, to be realistic, or to be too afraid to pursue that dream because it appears to be impossible. I don’t know, because you already know the answer.

There’s nothing wrong if you’re working for a company and you enjoy it or it fits into your dreams. What I mean here is, are you already living in your dreams? Are you still trying to reach it? Or do you get stuck in your comfort zone? Just don’t have regrets later on.

But, can I tell you something? Sometimes, our dreams are where we really belong. The voice within you may have told you a hundred times, but you didn’t notice or you denied it. And behind every dream we have, there’s always a price to pay for our dreams. It can be disciplined, improving ourselves, effort, tears, failure, rejection, trying anything and so on.

At this same point in life, you can make one of two choices:

- Reach it, or

- Play it safe.

How to get there?

To be honest, I’m not an expert on sharing this thing, but let’s humble ourselves to learn together.

Take the first step, and it often requires an effort.

Put our dreams behind us and take the first step. For example, I have loved writing since I was a kid, and I had a dream that my writing could be published in a book. What have I done? I started a personal blog in 2017 and share my thoughts on Instagram.

And then, I joined a big writer’s community in 2020, and my first piece was published at the beginning of 2021, and I got a certificate. It was fun to read your writing for the first time, but at least I made an effort.

I won’t stop, and now I am writing on Medium.

Never stop trying and never give yourself any excuse not to achieve your dreams.

Why? If you think that your dreams are worth achieving, then keep going and never give up! When you don’t stop, believe in yourself that there will be open doors in front of you. You’ll never know that you’re almost there. Even if you need to try anything, it’s always worth it in the end.

Discipline.

How can an author sell books and become a best-seller? I know that they write every day, write and write, make an effort, fail a hundred times, get rejected, and just never give up. We who are writing here on Medium should practice discipline if our dreams are to be a writer and to get paid.

Don’t be afraid to walk an extra mile.

It may be through sacrifice, commitment, and dedication. It’s never been easy to get where you belong. It scared you. But, when you make sacrifices for your dreams, such as when you have to manage your time to learn something new, or cut out any activities that are not important, you’ll see the benefits later on.

The other thing is that maybe you have to pay for any courses to improve your skills and not get paid for months until something you build stabilizes.

Before I end this article, I’m going to put some lyrics from Nico and Vinz’s song with the title Miracles.

It’s not a magic trick that’ll get you there

The only miracle cure is blood, sweat and tears

The road is rocky, but don’t you ever go astray

Don’t be scared when the rain falls

What is hard can be simple

What is far can be so close

At the end of the rainbow

I see all that I dreamed of
