Life can be hard. And you don’t have to do anything to make it so. It just is.

You can eat clean, never smoke, use sunscreen all your life, and still get cancer.

You can go to church every week, feed the poor, care for the neglected and still end up the victim of a random crime or act of violence.

You can do everything right raising a child, and they could still grow up to be an axe murderer.

How do we explain a two-year-old child getting leukemia, being sexually abused, or being abandoned? That child certainly didn’t bring it on themself.

Life is tough and unforgiving at times. It is also beautiful and amazing. But, no matter how beautiful and amazing, it is still painful and difficult.

We need fuel to keep going in the face of difficulties; otherwise, we run out of energy. We also need teeth and claws (or at least long and strong fingernails) to get through the tough stuff of life—tools, and attitude to keep fighting forward.
