Gary Belis is a man who has fled halfway across the world to get away from the United States and especially from Donald Trump. Belis arrived in New Zealand on the 22th of January and has fled the United States in order to avoid the new President.

But why does a man do that?!

In 1988, Gary Belis reviewed a book by Donald Trump called Trump: The Art and the Deal for Fortune and received in reply a letter from the new President claiming that Belis’ review was an attack on Trump and not on the book. Trump added that he had to laugh at Gary Belis’ stupidity and the obvious and deep-seated prejudice he had displayed. Since then, Belis had been keeping a close eye on Trump and had been watching him more than the average person.

He decided that if Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, he would leave the country — and this is exactly what happened on the 22th January 2017. On the date of Trump’s inauguration in Washington D.C., Belis took the plane to New Zealand to be far away from the new President. For how long Belis will stay in New Zealand is unsure. What we know is that he has a 90-day tourist visa and plans to eventually visit Australia and also considers a trip to Africa afterwards. All he wants is to be far away from the United States. This is also the reason why he preferred not to have a television in his room.

However, some people notice his American accent and start discussing about the election and the new President Donald Trump. Belis’ solution for that: “I’m going to start telling people I’m Canadian!” But is it as simple as that?! Is travelling really a way to escape Donald Trump?
