John Key’s “Legacy”

John Key has resigned recently from his position as New Zealand’s Prime Minister after being in charge for eight years. As a Prime Minister he was different than many others. Key wasn’t pictured as a snobby politician, but rather as a normal citizen. He was a man of the people. However, John Key was a man of scandals as well and therefore, I want to take a look at the most awkward moments he had while being in power.

1.The first and probably most known incident that comes to mind is Key’s ponytail scandal, rather known as “ponytail-gate”. He had repeatedly pulled on the ponytail of an Auckland waitress. But this is not the only time he was seen pulling ponytails. There have been various videos which showed Key touching other people’s hair that went viral.

2. Another hairy moment during John Key’s governance occurred in 2014. He was invited to a charity event where was asked to help shave then — Canterbury Earthquake Recovery boss Roger Sutton’s head. His important job was to chop off Sutton’s ponytail — a very fitting task for the then Prime Minister. Luckily, Barber John enjoyed his task and was impressed by Sutton’s clean hair.

3. But this wasn’t the only awkward moment Key had in 2014. One day he visited a school in Christchurch to use their classroom for a debate. As polite as he his, John Key left a message on the whiteboard to thank them for providing him the classroom. Unfortunately, the message wasn’t written in proper English as Key incorrectly used “your” instead of “you’re”. The mistake was spotted and corrected, but photos with evidence of his mistake were already taken. Key’s office also confirmed that it really was him who made the spelling mistake.
