New Zealand thoughts

When I think about New Zealand, I think about Kiwis, the flora and fauna New Zealand is famous for and the country where the filming of the Lord of the Rings movies took place.

Did you know that the Kiwi fruit is originally from China and named after the animal which it bears quite some resemblance to?

The filming of the Lord of the Rings brought more than 200 million dollar into New Zealands economy. When you think about money you inevitably have to think about the giant scam that we learned of through the so called “Panama Papers”. And New Zealand is also connected to this as it is one of the countries where rich people hide their money.

Another recent activity that might have led to you hearing of New Zealand is the public debate about possible changes to their national flag.

By the way: Did you know that New Zealand was the first country to implement voting rights for women. And another fact about women:

“In 2006, the Queen, the Governor-General, the PM, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Chief Justice were all women; making New Zealand the only country in the world (to date) where all the highest positions have been simultaneously held by women.”

Oh and: New Zealand is the only country that actually had a “National Wizard”.

Another thing that I really like about New Zealand is that they don’t have a single nuclear power station in the whole country. I guess that keeps the island green and at least somewhat safe from nuclear hazards.
