Populism in New Zealand

There are populist parties everywhere around the World but there is one party, which I find very confusing and special at the same time, which doesn’t mean I like them but there is something off. New Zealand First is the populist and very conservative Party in New Zealand. What caught my eye was that since 1993 the Leader of this Party is Winston Peters. Most of you would now think of a stereotypical White man but that is not what it is. He is of Maori decent. This is a big reason why he gains a lot of votes from other Maoris. His party is very Anti-Asians and thinks that too many want to immigrate to New Zealand. This is what I mean; now even the Maori, the natives are starting to become xenophobic. The Minorities, who should know how it is to be discriminated, are doing the exact same thing. New Zealand is built by immigrants, they are like the Australians, Americans and Canadians a nation built by many different nations and now these people, even though their ancestors came from different parts of the world are now against immigrants. This doesn’t even make sense in my opinion. With that way of thinking they just tear this country apart instead of protecting it, like they think it is what they are doing. But it is to mention, that it is almost everywhere in the western world these days. Europe is drifting from itself further and further away and the United States have their own problems in society and it has reach its point, where it is bad like it hasn’t been in a long time. Racial problems are destroying our community but we have to talk to those people, who are afraid of immigrants instead of screaming at them because that would just make them more confident in their thinking and strengthen it. We have to work together instead of against each other and of course this is what New Zealand also should do.
