Reasons for travelling to New Zealand (+ some impressions)

Mt. Tauhara / Lake Taupo

The question why so many Germans dream about a journey to New Zealand is justified. Work and travel or just traveling is also possible in Europe. Beautiful, breathtaking landscapes do also exist here on our continent. Why not saving the costs for an expensive and exhausting flight to an island at the end of the earth and spend the money on a trip to a country like Norway or Sweden? The question seems obvious but whoever has visited the island, which is sometimes even forgotten on world maps, has more than a hundred answers.

People, who have travelled to New Zealand, describe beautiful mountains, sandy beaches and sincere people. Of course all this exists also here in Europe but New Zealand offers much more. To explain what is meant by the word “more” is very difficult. But I will give it a try and present a small appetizer for a journey to New Zealand.

Directly after landing on the ground of New Zealand you will recognize that you are far away from Europe. Reasons for this are the fresh air, cars driving on the left lane and so on.

New Zealanders and tourists can easily be distinguished with a closer look on their clothing. Locals know that a day sometimes has four seasons (weather) and therefore never leave home without a jacket — tourists don’t. These weather changes are one of the reasons why the nature is so different from ours. There are places in NZ where you can see sandy beaches and snow-capped mountains at the same time. The contact between nature and humans in NZ is a different one than here in Europe. New Zealanders take care of their wildlife and their natural system. There are numerous national parks and marine reserves and that secures the unique wildlife and nature. But although these areas are protected, tourists are allowed to go nearly everywhere. There are a lot of stunning hiking trails and if you read this here and think back to your last hiking experiences and think it’s boring — forget about those experiences. Almost every tourist in New Zealand goes on a hiking tour out of the reason that it is the best option to come as close to nature as possible and enjoy the amazing landscapes. Back in Europe you will also see hiking here in Germany with different eyes than before. There are no dangerous animals in NZ which means that you can walk through a national park like through the Volkspark here in Mainz.

All in all it has to be said that New Zealand is definitely worth visiting and it is hard to describe the beauty of nature that exists there. It is known that sometimes pictures can say more than words so here are some of my favorites.
