In New Zealand there are three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. For in case that you ever end up at Günther Jauchs show “Wer wird Millionär” to win 1 million euros, it might come in handy to know not only that New Zealand has three of these but also what they are. And even if you do not go to “Wer wird Millionär” you never know who you can impress with this knowledge. Maybe a friend of yours asks you which places are worth going to in New Zealand and you can say: “I think looking at New Zealands World Heritage Sites sounds like a fun and interesting adventure”. Otherwise keep it in mind for when you go and visit New Zealand yourself.

The New Zealand Sub-Antarctic Islands can be found in the Southern Ocean south-east of New Zealand. They consist of five island groups namely the Snares, Bounty Islands, Antipodes Islands, Auckland Islands and Campbell Islands. These islands have a lot of biodiversity and are especially interesting for bird watchers because 126 bird species stay there of which 5 breed nowhere else in the world.

Te Wahipounamu — South West New Zealand is a park in the Southwest of the South Island of New Zealand. It is known for its landscape, which has been shaped by glaciation. On the UNESCO Website it actually says that “the property exhibits many classic examples of tectonic, climatic, and glacial processes that have shaped the earth”. So if you are interested in geography and the processes that shaped and still shape our world, this might be the right adventure for you. I will definitely put this place on my bucket list.

Last but not least there also is the Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. The mountains, which can be found at the heart of the park are very important to the Maori people because they symbolize the spiritual links between the Maori and the environment. This is the place to go to if you are a fan of volcanoes. But be careful, some of them are still active.

I think I´ll have to spend at least a year in New Zealand because I won´t be able to decide on where to go.
