Wow, those are alarming numbers! I never thought about all the other costs that you mention (e.g. IDs). I absolutely agree with you — don’t do it! Use the money for something reasonable like environment, culture or education. Do something that lasts longer than until the next legislative period is over, do something for your following generations, something that’s not just an obvious act of self-adulation in order to build a monument for one single politician at the expense of a whole nation.
