For globalization, there are three main categories, namely economic, political and cultural. This article will focus on the cultural aspect.

The simplest example of cultural globalization is that many people like to watch Hollywood movies, even if we are not Americans. In addition, under the influence of cultural globalization, people’s aesthetics will also be affected. Taking Taiwan as an example, we believe that the definition of “beauty” is mostly influenced by the West. For example, slim women and Strong men, etc. Another one is language. Since English is the largest and most widely used language in the world, most people will learn English no matter where they come from. Even for most countries, learning English is an indispensable part of education.

Of course, what we call cultural globalization does not mean Westernization or Americanization. Usually we call this situation a strong culture, but a strong culture is relative. because what is considered a weak culture by some people may be a strong culture for some people.

Due to Taiwan’s special historical circumstances and geographical location, its culture and economy have been profoundly affected by globalization. Taiwan was occupied and ruled by the Netherlands as early as the Ming Dynasty, so it had the opportunity to come into contact with more advanced Western civilization, leave Asia and join Europe, and then experienced the rule of the Zheng family and the Qing Dynasty. It was occupied by Japan before World War II and was ruled by the Kuomintang government during the Cold War. , the two political parties changed after the new century, and they continued to absorb foreign cultures. After a long period of collision between Western and Eastern cultures, Taiwan has integrated and developed a unique culture — a fusion of local culture, Chinese culture, Western culture and Eastern culture.

In the trend of globalized cultural economy, on the one hand, we keep pace with the world and share global pop culture products with the world; on the other hand, we also use Taiwan’s advantageous position in the global economic division of labor system to expand Taiwan’s cultural industry. Under globalization, Taiwan has been integrated with the world’s cultural and economic production and marketing chains, operating simultaneously around the world.
