NNS

The NNS .test domain name registration lasted 5 days

A total of 10,309 participants

About 19,000 domain names were registered

9077 NNC token reward applications

Many problems popped up in the testing.

The main reason is we underestimated NNS fans’ enthusiasm. Lack of server preparation resulted in its multiple crashes, and a series of problems in the registration. For example, domain names couldn’t be registered. KYC could not be submitted, etc. In response to these problems, we promptly take actions to ensure that the test was conducted smoothly. For example, in order to relieve server pressure, the automatic refresh at many places on the website was changed into manual refresh by the user.

For the server, we upgraded the API service to deal with larger visits, modified the API code to make it more pressure resistant, implemented a full linux-based API deployment, used the SLB load balancing service to diversify the pressure (can be further extended), and used the API gateway to manage API traffic. Ultimately, 200–300tps were achieved in this testing, no longer causing pressure on the API.

A big headache for users outside China was they couldn’t receive the verification code. This was probably due to the telecom carriers which is not within our control, because we found no user in China which was not able to receive the code. We understand users’ anxiety, we are sorry we couldn’t help with that problem. But in future we will think about other ways of sending the verification code to avoid this problem.

In future, we will continue to enhance the registration fluency and user experience.

Thank you for your participation. Stay tuned on NNS!
