Chaintope will use blockchain technology to conduct a demonstration project to digitize administrative documents

On July 3, Chaintope Inc. and HAW International Inc. announced that they have started a pilot project to develop a service that will enable users to handle the certificates issued by Iizuka City in Fukuoka Prefecture on their smartphones.

Various certificates will be issued electronically using Chaintope’s blockchain technology.

This demonstration project will build the Trust Service, a system for ensuring the reliability of electronic data, in collaboration with Gcom Holdings, a developer of resident information systems in Iizuka City.

The “Trust Service” that will be constructed as part of this pilot project will accept applications from residents who wish to receive their certificates electronically, and the various certificates related to the applicant’s status and qualifications will be securely stored on a cloud server system via the resident information system.

Users can then download their own certificates at any time and place using their smartphones and present them to the businesses they wish to prove their status.

Also, the business that is presented with the certificate can verify that the certificate has not been created illegally through the Internet’s “Trust Service”.

The design of this “Trust Service” is based on a system (time stamp) that stores data electronically signed by Iizuka City, the issuer, on the summary of the certificate (message digest) and the date and time of delivery (recorded in a ledger).

This timestamp information will be made available on the Internet via the blockchain Tapyrus, developed by chain-tope.

After the demonstration project, the “trust service” will be decentralized and securely managed by multiple municipalities and businesses, according to the company.

Besides, as a social experiment, from January to March of next year, this pilot project will involve the circulation of certificates issued by Iizuka City electronically on a par with paper certificates.

This experiment will be open to all registered residents of Iizuka City, businesses based in the suburbs of Iizuka City or Fukuoka Prefecture, and companies and universities that provide services to Iizuka City residents.
The application process is scheduled to be accepted in December, and an announcement will be made by Iizuka City.

Chaintope is working on a blockchain project in an unelectrified area of Myanmar.

The company is also collaborating with Weathernews, Inc. to provide “marine carbon blocking” to objectively evaluate CO2 emissions reductions in the shipping industry, and is conducting a blockchain-based digital ticketing trial with Kinki Nippon Railway Co.
