KYOCERA Corporation and DIGITAL GRID Corporation announced on October 9 that they will start a P2P renewable energy power trading trial from January 2021 at Kyocera’s Nakayama plant in Yokohama.

With this demonstration, Kyocera’s Nakayama plant in Yokohama will be able to cover all of its electricity consumption with solar-derived electricity.

DIGITAL GRID is a company that provides the DIGITAL GRID Platform (DGP), a P2P electricity supply and demand adjustment platform that enables the free selection, purchase and sale of electricity using blockchain technology. More than 20 companies have participated in DGP since its launch, and this is the first non-FIT Renewable Energy transaction.

In this experiment, we will use P2P power trading of renewable energy with Kyocera’s solar cells and DGP to test the future use of renewable energy and the construction of power services. It is also a mechanism to realize RE100. The goal of this demonstration experiment is also to achieve Kyocera’s long-term environmental goal of a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

In this experiment, the DGP will be used to adjust the supply and demand of electricity to supply the Nakayama plant of Kyocera Yokohama. The power to be supplied is from the surplus power from the home FIT system at the homes of KYOCERA employees and from a new KYOCERA non-FIT solar power plant to be built in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture. The power supplied will also come from the on-site non-FIT solar power plant already built at the Nakayama plant.

In the event that the power consumed by the Nakayama Office cannot be supplemented by this power, the power purchased from the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX) will be supplied to the Nakayama Office with a non-fossilized certificate with tracking of a FIT solar power plant owned by Kyocera.
