On Saturday, October 19th, New Lab opened its doors, welcoming over 3,000 people for an evening of member open studios, art & tech installations, food, drinks, and live music. Centered around the theme of Light + Motion, the evening was a celebration of all that drives us forward, from information exchanges empowered by cutting-edge optics, to new systems of transportation, to technologies that reimagine human-machine interactions.

The evening began with a VIP gathering, the first hour before doors opened to the public, showcasing recently launched member products including an electric bike with self-adjusting suspension by Civilized Cycles, a Light phone that helps us take back our time and attention, Truebird’s fully automated micro-cafe serving specialty-quality espresso in places it’s never been before, state-of-the-art wearable tech for motorcyclists by Atelier Volant, BATS-TOI’s multisport helmet designed to prevent concussions, and LynQ- the world’s most advanced people compass.

Other activations throughout the evening included a portal to Mexico City by Shared Studios, the world’s largest 3D-printed liquid rocket engine by Launcher, s’mores over Biolite’s smokeless fire pits, an amphibious robot by Pliant Energy Systems, a new breed of electric motorcycle Tarform, Airlev’s levitating high speed Hyperloop transport system, a portable device by CLIP that instantly upgrades any bicycle into an e-bike, CARMERA’s AV fleet monitoring technology, kinetic energy harvesting tiles by Touchlight Innovations, a robotic/synth sound and motion installation featuring Physical Synthesis & e1ectr0n, and wearable tech demos by Nextiles.
