Why you shouldn’t get a job at 18 years old

You’re slowly killing yourself.

A job at 18 often leads to one place… down!

Allow me to explain 🗣

First getting a job at 18 poses a few inherent problems:

1.It pre-supposes the falsehood that 18 year olds “need money.” 9 times out of 10 they don’t need it, they just want it. There’s only 2 things the money will be spent on; student loans & liabilities (cars, electronics, clothes, etc)

2. If they are a college student, having a job only adds to the bulk of the day and creates more distraction than productivity. What’s more important for an 18 year old, grades or making money? That question is a lifelong dispute, however theres still time in the life cycle to both educate and monetize in turn.

What’s available? 🤷‍♂

The second piece of the puzzle to consider is job availability.

Essentially theres only 3 job options and, frankly, they all suck:

1. Busboy at a restaurant 🍳

2. Bagger at a grocery store 🍎 🥝 🥕

3. Babysitter/ camp counselor 👶

These jobs have no skills applicable to everday life nor do they have any growth potential, so why would you ever work there?

Like I said earlier there is a pre-conceived falsehood in society stating that 18 year olds “need money.”

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that every job listed above begins wth “B” I believe it’s because each one is bullshit!

A solution: 👍

Let’s get one thing straight, I’m not bashing on jobs in general. This is not a push for entrepreneurship by any means. Do I believe business ownership has benefits which are often overlooked? Absolutely! However, what I am saying is….

Instead of starting a cycle at 18 of minimal money, non-transferrable skills, and narrow sightedness of economics. Rather use those formidable years to explore the possibilities, try business ownership, try a job, try a hobby, travel, learn a marketable skill, forego school, etc.

This world is enormous. Yet many enter “the real world” at 22 years old without a single clue as to how to traverse it.

We’re hilariously ill-prepared for this thing we call life and theres nothing funny about it!

It’s time for a change people. Let’s try something new, and see if we can finally create that life we always imagined for ourself!
