Newmisma’s artists’ collective chose Edward Hopper for their first theme because his world-renowned body of work provides unity to the collection while allowing them to bring their own styles and visions.

“Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world. No amount of skillful invention can replace the essential element of imagination.” -Edward Hopper

Newmisma’s first NFT collection is an homage to the American realist master, created by 20 celebrated comics artists.

Edward Hopper (1882–1967) had an impact that went way beyond painting, inspiring photography and cinema (like Lynch and Hitchcock) and making him a pop culture icon. As such, his work has had a significant influence on many comics artists. Newmisma’s artists’ collective chose Edward Hopper for their first theme because his world-renowned body of work provides unity to the collection while allowing them to bring their own styles and visions.

With scenes of rural abandonment and urban solitude, Hopper illustrated the gothic side of the American spirit: empty, lonely, and vast. He had a deadpan way of portraying the world, and that same voice resonates in the works of so many other artists. As we move toward a world where physical and virtual existence is blurred, what effect does technology have on our everyday lives?

Hopper said, “no amount of skillful invention can replace the essential element of imagination,” and we couldn’t agree more. As NFTs make their way into the mainstream art industry, we believe that this technology is not a replacement for human imagination and interactions. NFTs are an exciting new medium that is opening a world of possibilities for collaboration, creation, and innovation; they are a key to unlocking the potential of both the physical and virtual worlds. NFTs are not replacing art; they are enhancing our experiences with it.

Hopper’s realist paintings forced viewers to recognize the isolation and strangeness of everyday life. We are proud to introduce Newmisma’s first collection: an unprecedented homage and a unique and original NFT series. Join our collective of 20+ acclaimed European comics artists as they revisit Hopper’s masterpieces and add a whole new dimension to the strangeness of our everyday lives.
