New/Mode’s awesome subscribers have launched a record-breaking number of actions during the COVID-19 pandemic. To uplift and inspire our community, we plan to shine a light on some of these great campaigns and actions every week.

In mid-April, Crooked Media — the company behind the highly influential podcast Pod Save America — launched its Vote Save America campaign.

Since then, the campaign, which uses New/Mode’s one-click calling and one-click emailing tools, has effectively mobilized thousands of people to speak out for much-needed protections ahead of this year’s elections.

What makes this such an impactful and compelling campaign?

Vote Save America recognizes that multi-channel engagement is the key to effective and accessible digital mobilization. Since some people aren’t comfortable with or able to make phone calls — or are simply unable to reach their rep by phone — Vote Save America also gives people the option of sending an email. This ensures people have more than one way to engage, while doubling their chances of having their voices heard.

The organizers behind Vote Save America also do a great job of making sure action-takers are set up for success. Every person has their own comfort level with online tools and platforms, so it’s important to 1) offer access to quick-and-easy-to-use tools like New/Mode’s whenever possible, and 2) demystify the action-taking process for supporters.

For example, Jon Favreau — the host of Pod Save America and former chief speechwriter for President Barack Obama — shared a video on Facebook that showed supporters how to use their New/Mode-powered call tool. Videos like this are helpful for people who are unfamiliar with one-click calling tools but want to easily connect with decision-makers. (Plus, videos are highly shareable 👌)

What else makes this a great campaign?

For one, we love the impossible-to-ignore call to action to Save America and the emphasis on the only way to do this: voting. It’s highly clickable and memorable messaging!

Vote Save America also draws you in with its great looking website, which has easy visuals and short, “snackable” content to help skimming readers. The colors are sharp and clean, and it’s easy to find the information you’re looking for (no confusing user interface here!).

The Vote Save America homepage is clean, bold, and easy to navigate.

Most importantly, the website delivers on its promise to be “a one-stop shop for everything you need to vote, volunteer, and help determine the outcome of the 2020 election.” Visitors to the site can easily find out whether they’re registered to vote, and if they’re not, are directed to where they can register. There’s state-specific information on how and when to vote and a super helpful page that clarifies the American election process, among other offerings.

But is it working?

Yes! Since launching, Vote Save America has garnered more than 4,400 calls to Congress (rapidly exceeding the original goal of 3,000) and more than 1,500 emails sent. 🔥🔥

Takeaways from Vote Save America for your own campaigns

➡️ Give your supporters multiple options for engagement so they can participate in a way that works for them. (Bonus: The more avenues of contact you provide, the more likely your target will hear your message! Multi-channel engagement really, really works.)

➡️ Simplify and clarify points of potential confusion for your would-be supporters. People are less likely to mobilize if they don’t understand what you’re asking them to do. You could record a video on your phone that shows supporters how to use the digital action, or you could write out the steps on your action page.

➡️ Make sure your content is digestible and that people can easily find the information they’re looking for. Wherever possible, keep your messaging short and concise!
